Android 16 Update for Samsung Galaxy Phones

Samsung Galaxy Phones to Start Receiving Android 16 Update This Summer

Google confirms One UI 8 rollout is on track for flagship Galaxy devices

Samsung Galaxy users can expect Android 16 to hit their phones starting this summer, as Google pushes the stable version of its next-gen OS. The announcement came during Google’s latest Android Show event, where it outlined the release timeline and key features of the update.

Android 16 rollout: What to expect

The stable version of Android 16 is scheduled to launch next month, with Samsung among the first in line to roll it out. A test build of One UI 8 has already surfaced, and Google has now officially confirmed that the beta version will drop by the end of May — likely limited to a small batch of devices.

Samsung typically prioritizes its newest flagships, and this year’s update path will likely follow the same pattern. That means the Galaxy S25 lineup, Z Fold 6, and Z Flip 6 are expected to receive the beta and full stable builds first. Meanwhile, the upcoming Fold 7 and Flip 7 will likely ship with Android 16 and One UI 8 out of the box.

Android 16 features: What’s changing?

Android 16 introduces subtle but meaningful changes focused on fluidity and responsiveness. Expect updated animations, haptic tweaks, and cleaner transitions when swiping away apps or clearing notifications.

Some interface changes include:

  • A more refined notification shade with background blur

  • Enhanced Quick Settings with more personalization options

  • Real-time Live Updates from third-party apps (think ride-hailing, deliveries, navigation)

  • Improved layout consistency for icons and widgets on the home screen

  • Tweaked Material You theming elements with updated typography and color choices

Wear OS 6 is also getting a refresh, with smoother scroll physics and round-display optimizations, but Android 16’s headline changes remain mostly UI-level. Most of the heavy lifting already happened with One UI 7, so this update is more of a refinement.

Komodoty tip: Make sure your device is ready

If you're running a Galaxy flagship released in the last two years, you're likely on the priority list. Back up your data and keep an eye out for beta invites through the Samsung Members app. For those planning an upgrade, devices like the Galaxy S25+ or the upcoming Z Fold 7 might be your best bet to experience Android 16 on day one.
