Hisense A10 E Ink Phone Arrives With a Detachable Color Screen

The Hisense A10 is the most unusual phone announcement of the week: an Android handset with a 6.13-inch monochrome E Ink display on the front and a color LCD on the back that you can pull off and leave at home. Hisense has detailed the device in China, marking its return to E Ink phones after the well-regarded A9 from 2022.

An E Ink screen as the main display
The front of the Hisense A10 is a 6.13-inch E Ink panel built to mimic paper. E Ink draws almost no power when displaying a static page and produces no backlight glare, which makes it well suited to reading e-books, taking notes, and long study sessions with less eye strain than a conventional phone screen.

The detachable color screen is the trick
The standout feature sits on the back: a color LCD panel that attaches magnetically. Snap it on when you want photos, comics, charts, or social apps in color; take it off when you want a thin, distraction-light reading device. Competitors have tried dual-screen E Ink phones before — BigMe's HiBreak Dual pairs an E Ink front with a fixed color screen — but Hisense is the first to make the second display fully removable.

Modern hardware underneath
This is not a stripped-down e-reader with a SIM slot. The A10 runs a 4nm octa-core Qualcomm chipset, ships with Android 16, and supports both 5G and Wi-Fi 6, so the everyday app experience should be far closer to a normal midrange phone than earlier E Ink devices managed.

Expected pricing
Hisense has not published an official price yet. Reports out of China put the expected figure at 3,999 yuan, roughly $590. One open question is whether the detachable color panel ships in the box at that price or is sold as an add-on; Hisense has not confirmed either way.

A long-awaited follow-up to the A9
The previous model, the Hisense A9 of 2022, used a 6.1-inch, 300 PPI E Ink screen with a Snapdragon 662 chip at 1,799 yuan, and demand was strong enough that Hisense re-released it with more RAM and storage in 2025. The A10 arrives four years later with a faster chip, newer software, and the removable second screen as its answer to the format's biggest limitation.

Availability will be the catch
Like the A9 before it, the A10 is launching in China first, and there is no confirmation of a wider release. Buyers elsewhere will likely need to rely on import channels, as with most E Ink phones to date.
