Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Launches in Australia: Price, Colors, Specs

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is now on sale in Australia alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip8, capping a global rollout that started with US and European availability earlier this month. Samsung says the Australian launch set a new record for foldable pre-orders in the country, with double-digit growth year on year, adding a third market where the wide-screen redesign has landed since the initial reveal.

Availability and pricing
The Galaxy Z Fold8 went on sale in the US on August 5 at $1,900 for the 256GB model, with the Galaxy Z Flip8 following on August 7 starting at $1,199 for the 12GB/256GB version, $100 more than its predecessor. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra starts higher, from $2,099 in the US and £1,899 in the UK. Australian pre-orders opened July 23 ahead of general availability on August 14.

A wider foldable form factor
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is Samsung's first wide-screen foldable, trading the tall and narrow shape of earlier Fold models for a body that is shorter and wider when open. Samsung says the change makes the phone easier to use one-handed and closer to a standard tablet aspect ratio when unfolded.

The Fold8 Ultra sits above it
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra shares the same wide-screen design but adds a premium materials package and a higher starting price. Violet Shadow and Graphite were the top color picks among Australian buyers for the Ultra model, while Graphite and Lavender led sales for the standard Fold8.

Flip8 gets thinner and lighter
The Galaxy Z Flip8 is Samsung's lightest and thinnest flip phone to date, weighing 180 grams and measuring 6.1mm thick when unfolded, down from the Flip7's 6.5mm. Pink and Graphite were the most popular colors for the Flip8 in Australia.

Software and long-term support
All three phones ship with Android 17 and One UI 9, backed by Samsung's commitment to seven years of software updates. That puts the Fold8 lineup on the same update timeline as Samsung's current Galaxy S flagships, a long runway for buyers who plan to hold onto a foldable for several years.

Strong early demand
Samsung Electronics Australia reported that the launch drew its highest number of new-to-Samsung switchers yet, with the Galaxy Z Fold8 leading that mix, and noted growing interest from younger buyers drawn to the foldable's portability.

Protect your Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 with a Komodoty case
A foldable this wide needs a case built around its exact hinge and screen layout. Komodoty makes slim cases for Samsung Galaxy phones in materials like wood with a Kevlar core, aramid fiber, and Alcantara, with precise cutouts and wireless charging support.
