Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Leak Reveals Wider Design Ahead of July 22 Unpacked
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is shaping up to be the biggest change to Samsung's book-style foldable in years, according to a wave of recent leaks pointing to a Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22 in London. For the first time, Samsung is reportedly splitting its flagship foldable into two distinct models built for different buyers.
Two foldables instead of one
Leaks describe a standard Galaxy Z Fold8 with a wider, shorter "passport-style" shape, alongside a Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra that keeps the taller, narrower profile longtime Fold owners are used to. The standard model reportedly measures around 201g, notably lighter than the 215g Galaxy Z Fold7 and Huawei's 229g Pura X Max.
Display and camera specs
Leaker Ahmed Qwaider describes a 7.6-inch 120Hz foldable inner screen paired with a 5.5-inch cover display, both at QHD+ resolution. The rear camera setup is said to include a 50MP wide sensor and a 50MP ultra-wide, with a 10MP selfie camera on both the inner and cover screens.
Power and pricing
Both Fold8 models are expected to run Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset with 12GB of RAM, in storage tiers up to 1TB. Pricing is rumored to start around $1,999 for the base 256GB model, climbing to roughly $2,499 for the 1TB Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.
A launch timed against Apple
Samsung's decision to widen the standard Fold8 lines up closely with Apple's own rumored foldable iPhone, expected to arrive later this year with a similar 4:3-style aspect ratio when unfolded. Multiple reports suggest Samsung wants its wider foldable in stores before Apple enters the category for the first time.
What to watch for on July 22
Alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra, Samsung is expected to introduce the Galaxy Z Flip8, plus the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. If the July 22 date holds, retail availability is rumored to follow in early August.
Colors and storage leaks
A separate leak covering color options claims the standard Galaxy Z Fold8 will come in Cream, Graphite, Lavender, and Pistachio, while the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is said to offer Cream, Graphite, Green Shadow, and Violet Shadow. Both are reportedly offered in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage tiers, matching the pricing spread rumored for the lineup.
