TCL P80 Series Brings NXTPAPER to AMOLED Displays at IFA 2026

The TCL P80 series debuted at IFA 2026 with a display feature TCL says is a first: NXTPAPER paper-like technology paired with an actual OLED panel instead of an LCD screen. The TCL P80 lineup covers three phones, giving shoppers a paper-like reading mode without giving up the contrast and color of an OLED display.

Three models, three price points
The lineup splits into the base TCL P80, the mid-tier TCL P80 Pro, and the camera-focused TCL P80 Ultra. European pricing starts at 349 euros for the base P80, moves to 429 euros for the P80 Pro, and tops out at 549 euros for the P80 Ultra.

What NXTPAPER AMOLED changes
Earlier NXTPAPER phones from TCL relied on LCD panels to get their paper-like, eye-comfort display mode. The P80 Ultra and P80 Pro move that same technology onto a 6.83-inch OLED panel, so users get deeper blacks and richer color when NXTPAPER mode is off, and a softer, glare-reduced reading mode when it's on.

Display specs
The P80 Ultra and P80 Pro both run a 1.5K OLED NXTPAPER display at a 120Hz refresh rate with a peak brightness of 3,200 nits, numbers that put them ahead of most phones at this price outdoors and in direct sun. The NXTPAPER mode itself softens glare and cuts blue light for reading, switching on and off without a visible drop in sharpness.

Camera focus on the Ultra
TCL is positioning the P80 Ultra as the camera flagship of the three, with the strongest sensor package of the lineup, while the base P80 and P80 Pro trade some camera hardware for a lower price. That split lets TCL cover budget, mid-range, and camera-first buyers within a single series rather than a single phone trying to do everything.

Availability
The TCL P80 series was announced at IFA 2026 in Berlin, with European pricing confirmed at 349 euros for the base P80, 429 euros for the P80 Pro, and 549 euros for the P80 Ultra. US availability is expected to follow TCL's usual rollout pattern for the P-series, though pricing there has not been confirmed.

Where NXTPAPER AMOLED fits in the market
Most phones force a choice between an LCD panel with a paper-like reading mode and an OLED panel with richer color but more eye strain over long reading sessions. By combining both on the P80 Ultra and P80 Pro, TCL is targeting buyers who read or work on their phone for long stretches but don't want to give up OLED contrast for video and games.

A display built around eye comfort and color deserves a case that doesn't get in the way of it. The TCL P80 series works well with a slim Komodoty case, made from materials like Alcantara and aramid fiber with cutouts fitted to each phone and support for wireless charging.
