Xiaomi 18 Fold Debuts at IFA 2026 With In-House XRing O3 Chip
The Xiaomi 18 Fold made its official debut at IFA 2026, and it is the first Xiaomi flagship built around the company's own in-house XRing O3 chip. Xiaomi is calling it a "mid-size" foldable, aiming to sit between the compact book-style foldables already on the market and larger tablet-style devices, and positioning it as a direct answer to rivals like the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Apple's rumored foldable iPhone.
Display specs
The Xiaomi 18 Fold pairs a 7.68-inch inner foldable display at 2364×1672 resolution with a 5.38-inch outer display at 1712×1168. Both panels are flexible AMOLED running at a 120Hz refresh rate, giving the phone a wide, book-like shape when unfolded and a usable cover screen for quick tasks when closed.
The XRing O3 chip and memory
The XRing O3 is Xiaomi's own silicon, marking the first time the company has paired a foldable flagship with a chip it designed itself rather than a Qualcomm or MediaTek part. It's matched with next-generation LPDDR6 RAM from ChangXin Memory Technologies, rated for data transfer speeds up to 12,800 Mbps, which should help the phone juggle multiple apps across its large inner display.
Camera and battery
A triple rear camera system leads with a 200MP main sensor. Battery capacity comes in at 6,000mAh, with 67W wired charging and 50W wireless charging to keep the large dual-display device topped up through a full day of use, even with the bigger screens drawing more power than a standard flagship.
Weight and build
At 219 grams, Xiaomi says the 18 Fold is the lightest foldable it has ever made, a notable figure given the size of both displays and the battery packed inside. Hands-on impressions from reviewers at IFA describe the hinge as noticeably slimmer than earlier Xiaomi foldables.
Pricing
In China, the Xiaomi 18 Fold starts at CNY 10,999 (roughly $1,640) for the base 12GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration. A ceramic special edition with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage runs CNY 15,999 (roughly $2,385). Xiaomi has not yet confirmed international availability or pricing outside China.
Timing against rivals
The launch lands the same week Huawei debuted its own updated foldable and just ahead of Apple's September 9 event, where a foldable iPhone is widely expected. Coverage from Android Authority notes the XRing O3 chip as the standout addition setting this model apart from earlier Xiaomi foldables, while early hands-on reports call it one of the most complete foldables the company has shipped.
Protect the Xiaomi 18 Fold with a Komodoty case
A foldable with two large displays and a lightweight 219g frame needs a case that protects both hinge and glass without adding bulk. Komodoty makes slim cases with precise cutouts and support for wireless charging, available in materials like Kevlar-backed wood, aramid fiber, and Alcantara.
