Huawei Watch adds a coronary risk check Apple and Samsung don’t have

Huawei has started rolling out a HarmonyOS firmware update for the Watch Ultimate 2 that adds a new health screening feature: a coronary heart disease risk assessment. The goal is simple—use watch-collected data to estimate the user’s risk of developing blocked heart arteries.

This kind of feature is notable because Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch users often ask for more preventive health tools beyond basics like heart rate, ECG, and irregular rhythm alerts.

How the coronary risk assessment works

The feature runs through Huawei’s Research app on a Huawei phone. After you enroll in the coronary heart disease research project, the system collects vital signs during the day and at night. After about three to four days of wearing the watch, the app shows your coronary heart disease risk assessment results.

What you need for it to run

From the rollout details, the phone must be running HarmonyOS 5 or later, and the Huawei Research app needs to be updated to a recent version (the article cited version 1.1.10.320 or later). The watch feature arrives as part of a HarmonyOS firmware update.

More fitness updates in the same release

The update also adds a wheelchair mode in the activity log. That’s aimed at users who want activity tracking and goals that fit wheelchair use.

Cycling tracking gets more detailed

Huawei is also adding cycling tools that are meant to reduce the need for extra bike sensors. Outdoor cycling mode can provide simulated cadence data without attaching a separate cadence sensor to the bike. Another change is 3D distance compensation, which uses barometer and GPS data to better account for vertical movement, like climbs and descents.

Android phone controls from the watch

The update includes watch-based controls for some nearby Android phone functions, including camera control. For users who shoot photos or record video with their phone, this can be a practical add-on.

Hardware and U.S. availability notes

The Watch Ultimate 2 is positioned as a premium smartwatch, with a liquid metal case material and sapphire glass over the display. In the U.S., availability can be limited, so many buyers end up relying on importers rather than walking into a carrier store.

A quick reminder on medical clearance

Huawei health features can vary by region, and not all are cleared the same way in every market. If you rely on smartwatch health readings for medical decisions, check what’s supported and cleared where you live.

If you swap straps often or want a different fit, Komodoty watch bands are an easy way to change how your smartwatch feels day to day.
