Apple Confirms iPhone Duo's 4,883mAh Battery and Screen Hardness

Apple has confirmed the iPhone Duo's battery capacity and screen hardness rating through its EU Energy Label filing, closing out two of the biggest open questions about its first foldable phone. The iPhone Duo carries a 4,883 mAh battery, slightly larger than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8's 4,800 mAh cell, and its outer display is rated for scratch resistance up to 5 on the Mohs scale.

The battery number, finally official
The EU filing lists the iPhone Duo at 4,883 mAh, rated to retain at least 80 percent of its capacity after 1,000 full charge cycles. That puts it ahead of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (4,800 mAh) and close to the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold (4,806 mAh), though well short of the Motorola Razr Fold's 6,000 mAh pack.

Screen hardness: a real durability gain
The label rates the iPhone Duo's outer screen at 5 on the Mohs scale, well above the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, which Samsung rates at 1 Mohs. Apple has not named the exact glass or coating used, and the filing may only cover the smaller outer display rather than the roughly 8-inch inner screen.

Drop and water resistance
The iPhone Duo is rated IP68 and can survive immersion to 6 meters. Apple's filing also lists 140 free-fall drops survived with the device closed, a figure that drops to 35 once the inner screen is open, reflecting the added risk to a folding display.

Repairability score lags rivals
The same filing gives the iPhone Duo a repairability index of 2.65, lower than the iPhone 18 Pro Max's 3.14 but ahead of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (2.79) and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra (2.78). Folding hardware remains harder to score well here than a traditional slab phone.

Chip and modem carried over
The iPhone Duo runs on the A20 Pro chip paired with Apple's C2 modem, the same energy-efficient modem used in the iPhone 18 Pro line, which should help offset the demands of running two displays.

How it stacks up on paper
None of these figures include real-world battery testing yet, so how the iPhone Duo performs outside a lab is still an open question. But on the numbers Apple has disclosed so far, it edges out its closest foldable rivals on both battery size and screen durability.

Protect the iPhone Duo's folding screen
A tougher outer display is a good start, but a foldable this expensive still benefits from a case built for it. Komodoty makes slim cases for iPhone models with precise cutouts for cameras and buttons, available in materials like aramid fiber, slim wood with a Kevlar core, and Alcantara, with wireless charging support built in.
