Article: Google Pixel Buds Update Rolls Out

Google Pixel Buds Update Rolls Out

Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 and Pixel Buds 2a are receiving a new software update that moves both earbuds to software release_5.203.

The update was announced on Wednesday afternoon and applies to both current Pixel Buds models listed in the release notes.

What Is Included

Google lists the update as “general bug fixes and improvements.” No specific fixes, audio changes, battery changes, connection changes, or new features were detailed in the notes.

Because the release notes are limited, users should treat this as a maintenance update rather than a confirmed feature update.

How To Update On Android

To check for the update on Android, open the Pixel Buds app, go to More settings, then select Firmware update.

From there, users can check for updates or manually start the update process when it is available for their earbuds.

Desktop Update Option

Google also supports updates through the desktop web tool at mypixelbuds.google.com.

This gives users another way to manage firmware outside the Android app.

Automatic Updates

Pixel Buds users can turn automatic updates on or off. When automatic updates are enabled, new firmware versions can download and install without starting the process manually.

Rollout Status

The update is not widely rolled out yet, so not every Pixel Buds Pro 2 or Pixel Buds 2a owner will see release_5.203 right away.

If the update does not appear, the best option is to check again later through the Pixel Buds app or the desktop update page.

Previous Pixel Buds Pro 2 Update

The last major Pixel Buds Pro 2 update was version 4.467. That update added Adaptive Audio, Loud Noise Protection, head gestures for calls and texts, and Gemini Live voice priority features.

By comparison, release_5.203 appears to be a smaller maintenance release focused on stability.
