Article: Pixel Phone Custom Greetings Roll Out

Pixel Phone Custom Greetings Roll Out

The Pixel Phone app is rolling out custom Take a Message greetings to stable users, giving Pixel owners a more personal missed-call response than the default recording.

The feature lets users record their own greeting for callers to hear when Take a Message answers on their behalf. It replaces the standard system message and adds a simple way to change how missed calls are handled.

What The Update Adds

Custom greetings sit inside the Take a Message settings in the Phone by Google app. Users can keep the standard greeting or record their own versions and set one as the default.

Recordings can be up to one minute long, which gives enough space for a short professional greeting, a personal message, or a temporary note while traveling or working.

Where To Find It

Once available, the feature appears at the top of the Home tab with a prompt to add a personal greeting. It can also be reached through Settings and then Take a Message.

The greeting manager allows multiple saved recordings, while the active one is marked clearly so it is easy to switch between options.

Availability

Current rollout reports point to the feature reaching stable users through version 223 of the Phone by Google app. Google’s support documentation still lists Take a Message availability on Pixel 6 and newer devices in Australia, Canada, Ireland, the UK, and the US.

That regional list matters because Take a Message is not yet a universal Pixel feature. Even with the latest app version installed, access can still depend on account rollout and country support.

Why It Matters

Take a Message is one of the more useful Pixel calling features because it handles missed or declined calls directly on the device and shows a live transcript while the caller speaks. Adding custom greetings makes it feel less generic and more practical for daily use.

It is also a better fit for users who want their phone to sound more personal without relying on a carrier voicemail greeting.

What To Watch Next

The next thing to watch is broader regional support. Google has already made the greeting option more visible and easier to manage, so wider device or country expansion would be the logical next step.
