Article: Apple Raises MacBook and iPad Prices by Up to $300

Apple Raises MacBook and iPad Prices by Up to $300

The MacBook Air is one of several Apple computers and tablets that got more expensive on June 25, 2026, after Apple raised prices across its Mac and iPad lineups by as much as $300 per model. The move touches nearly every current laptop and tablet Apple sells, from its cheapest MacBook to its priciest iPad Pro.

What changed for the MacBook Air
The MacBook Air now starts at $1,299, up from $1,099, a $200 increase on Apple's entry-level laptop. For a machine many buyers pick specifically for its lower starting price, the jump narrows the gap between the Air and Apple's pricier Pro models.

MacBook Pro and MacBook Neo also cost more
The MacBook Pro now starts at $1,999, up from $1,699, while the MacBook Neo, Apple's budget laptop that launched only three months earlier at $599, is now priced at $699. A $100 increase on a laptop that had barely reached shelves shows how broadly the new pricing was applied.

iPad Air and iPad Pro price increases
Apple's tablets were not spared either. The iPad Air now starts at $749, up from $599, a $150 jump, and the iPad Pro rose $200 to $1,199. Both tablets are popular with buyers who also use them for note-taking and creative work, where the higher entry price adds real cost to a first purchase.

Why the prices went up
Apple pointed to a global shortage of memory and storage chips, as AI data centers compete for the same DRAM and NAND capacity used in consumer laptops and tablets. DRAM costs reportedly rose 98% in the first quarter of 2026 as AI infrastructure absorbed much of the global memory supply, squeezing the parts that go into everyday laptops and tablets.

What didn't change
Apple left iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods pricing untouched for now, though the company has not ruled out further increases across its lineup if chip costs keep climbing through the rest of 2026.

What this means for buyers
Anyone holding an older MacBook or iPad, or comparing prices before buying new, now has less room in the budget for extras once the higher sticker price is factored in. Shoppers who were waiting for a sale may want to watch pricing closely rather than assume last month's numbers still apply.
