Apple Watch, AirPods Pro Health Update
Apple Watch and AirPods Pro now support new health features in India, adding sleep apnoea notifications on Apple Watch and a clinically validated Hearing Test on compatible AirPods Pro models.
What is now available
Apple has released two health-focused updates for users in India. Apple Watch can now monitor breathing disturbance patterns during sleep and notify users when signs point to possible moderate to severe sleep apnoea. AirPods Pro also support a Hearing Test feature that lets users check hearing levels at home with a compatible iPhone or iPad.
How the Apple Watch feature works
The Apple Watch feature uses the accelerometer to detect small wrist movements linked to disruptions in normal breathing patterns during sleep. Every 30 days, the watch reviews breathing disturbance data and sends a notification if the pattern shows possible signs of moderate to severe sleep apnoea.
Users can also export a PDF summary that shows when sleep apnoea may have occurred, along with three months of breathing disturbance data. That report can be shared with a doctor for follow-up.
Why this matters
Sleep apnoea is widely underdiagnosed and can lead to longer-term health issues if untreated. Apple positions this feature as an early warning tool rather than a formal diagnosis. It is intended for adults aged 18 and older who do not already have a sleep apnoea diagnosis.
AirPods Pro Hearing Test details
AirPods Pro now support a hearing test based on pure-tone audiometry, which is the standard method used in clinical hearing checks. The test takes about five minutes and can be completed at home using supported AirPods Pro with a compatible iPhone or iPad.
After the test, users see a result summary for each ear, including hearing loss levels, classification, and guidance. The audiogram is stored in the Health app and can be shared with a healthcare provider.
Device support and availability
The Hearing Test feature is supported on AirPods Pro 2 and later with the latest firmware, paired with a compatible iPhone or iPad running iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 or later. Apple also states that sleep apnoea notifications are available in more than 150 countries and regions, with India now included.
What buyers should know
These updates add more practical health tracking to Apple Watch and AirPods Pro without changing the basic hardware role of either product. For users already inside the Apple ecosystem, the new tools add more value to devices they may already use every day.
