Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 8 and E16 Gen 4 Add Intel Wildcat Lake Chips

The Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 8 and ThinkPad E16 Gen 4 have quietly become the first ThinkPads to run Intel's new Wildcat Lake platform. The configurations appeared in Lenovo's PSREF specifications database over the weekend, bringing Intel's newest budget-focused silicon to two of the company's most popular business laptop lines before any formal announcement.

Four Wildcat Lake processor options
The listings cover the Intel Core 5 315, Core 5 320, Core 5 330, and Core 7 360. Each chip combines two performance cores with four low-power efficiency cores for six cores and six threads in total, with maximum performance-core frequencies ranging from 4.4 GHz on the entry chip to 4.8 GHz on the Core 7 360.

AI PC class, but not Copilot+
The integrated Intel graphics are rated at 18 to 21 TOPS depending on the chip, while the NPUs deliver between 15 and 17 TOPS. That is enough for Lenovo's AI PC category, but it falls short of the 40-TOPS NPU requirement for Microsoft's Copilot+ PC tier, so these models sit a rung below the premium AI laptop segment — as expected at this price class.

Memory is the main trade-off
Wildcat Lake configurations come with a single DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM slot supporting up to 32GB. One slot means no dual-channel memory, which will cost some graphics performance, though 32GB remains a healthy ceiling for the office and web workloads these machines are built for.

Display options up to 120 Hz
The ThinkPad E14 Gen 8 offers 14-inch panels in WUXGA and 2.8K resolutions, while the larger ThinkPad E16 Gen 4 comes with 16-inch WUXGA and WQXGA options. Selected panels support a 120 Hz refresh rate, a spec that until recently was rare on budget business laptops.

What Wildcat Lake means for buyers
Wildcat Lake is Intel's new entry-level platform, aimed at efficient everyday computing rather than raw power. For the E series — ThinkPad's value line — that fits the mission: dependable keyboards, business management features, and long service life at a price mid-sized companies can roll out in volume. Pricing and shipping dates for the Wildcat Lake configurations have not been published yet; for now the models exist only in the Lenovo PSREF database.

The bigger picture
Lenovo listing these machines ahead of a launch suggests the first Wildcat Lake laptops are close to market. If Intel's efficiency claims hold, the platform could reset expectations for what a sub-premium business laptop delivers on battery life — the area where budget Windows machines have trailed Apple and Qualcomm-based rivals the longest.
