OnePlus 16 Launches in China: Price, Specs, and 200MP Camera Detailed

The OnePlus 16 is now official, launching in China on October 12 with a 200MP main camera, a 9,000mAh battery, and a flagship chip that puts it near the top of OnePlus's own lineup. Open sales in China are set to begin on October 31, though OnePlus hasn't confirmed pricing or a release window for other markets yet.

Pricing in China
The OnePlus 16 starts at CNY 5,999 (roughly $840) for the 12GB plus 256GB configuration. The top-end model, with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, is priced at CNY 8,499, or about $1,190 at current exchange rates.

A faster chip and a bigger battery
Inside the OnePlus 16 is a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor paired with LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. OnePlus also bumped the battery to a 9,000mAh cell, a sizable jump that should help all-day use even with the phone's bright, 165Hz display running.

A 185Hz display
The OnePlus 16 uses a 6.78-inch flat LTPO OLED panel at 1,272 by 2,772 resolution, with support for up to a 185Hz refresh rate, though the phone runs at 165Hz for most everyday tasks. The LTPO panel should also help the phone scale its refresh rate down when it isn't needed, saving battery along the way.

Camera upgrades across the board
The rear camera system centers on a 200MP main sensor at 1/1.4-inch, alongside a 50MP 3x telephoto lens and a 50MP ultrawide. Up front, OnePlus fitted a 50MP selfie camera, a notable step up from the more modest front cameras on past OnePlus phones.

Fast charging, wired and wireless
The OnePlus 16 supports 100W wired charging alongside 50W wireless charging, so even with the larger 9,000mAh battery, a full charge shouldn't take dramatically longer than on last year's model. The phone ships with ColorOS 17 out of the box.

What's still unknown
OnePlus hasn't said when, or if, the OnePlus 16 will reach markets outside China, including the US and Europe. Buyers elsewhere will need to wait for an official announcement before pricing and availability outside China are confirmed.

How it compares to last year's model
The jump to a 9,000mAh battery and a 200MP main camera marks one of the bigger year-over-year upgrades OnePlus has made to its numbered flagship line in some time. Pairing that with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip suggests OnePlus is positioning the OnePlus 16 to compete directly with the top flagships from Samsung and Xiaomi on raw specs, rather than carving out a budget-flagship niche the way some of its past phones have.

Get the OnePlus 16 ready for daily use
A phone with a camera module and display this size needs a case that can keep up with it. Komodoty makes slim, precise cases for OnePlus phones, built from materials like slim wood with a Kevlar core, aramid fiber, and Alcantara, with accurate cutouts and support for wireless charging.
