Apple gears up to release iPhone 17 series with thinner design, upgraded cameras, WiFi 7, and faster chips—coming September 2025.

Apple is preparing to unveil its iPhone 17 lineup in September 2025, and expectations are building fast. With early details now surfacing, the new range is shaping up to be one of Apple’s biggest hardware shifts in years. Four models are expected: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The Air model, in particular, is drawing attention.

The iPhone 17 Air is set to replace the Plus model, offering a slimmer and lighter device. With a 6.6 inch display and a thickness of around 5 to 6 millimetres, it could become the thinnest large-screen iPhone Apple has ever produced. Built with an aluminium frame and a single rear camera, this model focuses on portability and simplicity without compromising performance.

All models are expected to come with OLED displays and Apple’s ProMotion technology, bringing a 120 hertz refresh rate across the board. Users will notice smoother scrolling, improved video playback, and more responsive interactions in apps and games.

Inside, the standard iPhone 17 will likely carry the A18 chip with 8 gigabytes of memory, while the Air, Pro, and Pro Max models will move to the A19 and A19 Pro chips, paired with 12 gigabytes of memory. This marks a meaningful jump in processing power and is designed to support Apple’s new on-device AI tools. These features, branded as part of the Apple Intelligence initiative, will rely on improved thermal performance and greater memory capacity.

Camera upgrades are another focus this year. The front-facing camera across all models is expected to increase to 24 megapixels, delivering sharper selfies and improved FaceTime quality. On the Pro models, triple 48 megapixel cameras will offer advanced optical zoom, new wide-angle options, and potentially 8K video capture. Some reports suggest mechanical aperture control could give users more flexibility in low light or portrait modes.

Connectivity also sees a step forward. Apple is expected to introduce WiFi 7 support and faster 5G modems. The Air model might be the first to ship with Apple’s in-house modem, which would reduce dependence on third-party suppliers and potentially improve signal consistency.

Battery performance is also getting attention. With thinner devices come concerns about battery life, but Apple is reportedly reworking the internal layout for better cooling and larger batteries in all four models. A vapor chamber cooling system is under testing for the Pro versions to support more sustained performance during heavy use.

Charging speeds are expected to remain at 35 watts for wired and align with the new Qi 2.2 wireless standard. As Apple pushes further into eSIM territory, physical SIM card slots may be removed entirely from the Air and Pro Max in select regions.

The iPhone 17 range is expected to be announced between September 10 and 13, with retail availability later that month. Prices will likely start around 799 US dollars for the base model and increase through the range depending on features and size.
