Article: Apple Reportedly Planning Touchscreen MacBook Pro for October 27 Event

Apple Reportedly Planning Touchscreen MacBook Pro for October 27 Event

Apple is reportedly preparing a touchscreen MacBook Pro for an event around October 27, 2026, according to a Bloomberg report relayed by 9to5Mac. The new MacBook Pro would mark the biggest design change to Apple's laptop line in years, adding a touch display to the Mac for the first time since the product line began nearly two decades ago.

OLED screens and a Dynamic Island on a Mac
The report describes 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with OLED displays and a Dynamic Island, the notch-area feature already found on iPhone, appearing on a Mac for the first time. OLED panels would bring deeper contrast and richer colors than the mini-LED screens on the current MacBook Pro lineup.

A lighter build
Alongside the touch display, the new MacBook Pro is said to be noticeably lighter than the current model, a change that would matter most to people who carry the 16-inch version daily between home, an office, and client meetings.

M5 Pro and M5 Max chips expected
Bloomberg's report ties the new MacBook Pro to Apple's M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, continuing the performance tier Apple set with the current M5 generation and aimed at the same demanding workloads, including video rendering and large creative file exports.

An OLED iPad mini is part of the same event
The same report points to a new iPad mini with an OLED screen, a relocated FaceTime camera, and an updated speaker system, launching around the same time as the MacBook Pro changes. That would give Apple's smallest tablet its first major screen upgrade in several generations.

A new iMac and an entry-level MacBook Pro too
Apple is also expected to update the iMac and the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with its M6 chip, keeping the current design on both rather than adding the touch display or Dynamic Island expected on the higher-end models.

Aimed at creative professionals
Bloomberg frames the October 27 launch around video editors, photo editors, and musicians, drawing a comparison to Apple's October 2024 Mac event, which included in-person demo time for the press. The report notes Apple has not confirmed any of these products, and specs or pricing could still change before an official announcement.
