Xiaomi 18 Fold Launches With 200MP Camera and In-House XRing O3 Chip

Xiaomi has launched the Xiaomi 18 Fold, a foldable phone built around the company's first in-house chip and a 200MP Leica camera system. The Xiaomi 18 Fold debuted on September 7, 2026, positioning itself against Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold line, Huawei's tri-fold Mate XT 2, and the widely rumored iPhone foldable.
A new in-house chip
The Xiaomi 18 Fold runs on the Xring O3, a 3nm deca-core processor that marks Xiaomi's first fully in-house silicon, paired with camera tuning from Leica. The chip was shown publicly at IFA 2026 in Berlin ahead of the phone's official launch, giving reviewers an early look at Xiaomi's move away from third-party processors for its flagship foldable.
200MP Leica camera system
The headline camera spec is a 200MP primary sensor paired with a 50MP periscope telephoto lens, giving the Xiaomi 18 Fold one of the highest-resolution setups on any foldable phone currently on sale. Leica's color science and lens coatings carry over from Xiaomi's flagship bar phones, aimed at closing the gap between foldable and non-foldable camera quality.
A 7.58-inch inner display built for reading
Xiaomi built the inner screen with a 2:1 aspect ratio meant to resemble a sheet of paper when unfolded, a shift from the taller, narrower inner displays used on most rival foldables. The change makes the inner screen better suited to documents, browsing, and split-screen multitasking rather than a stretched phone screen.
Battery life in a notably thin body
Despite the slim foldable form factor, the phone packs a 6,000mAh battery with 67W wired and 50W wireless charging. At 219g, Xiaomi says it is the lightest foldable the company has made, addressing one of the main complaints buyers have about foldable phones: excess weight and bulk when closed.
Price and where it sits in the lineup
The Xiaomi 18 Fold starts at CNY10,999, roughly $1,650, positioning it as a premium option in Xiaomi's lineup and a direct rival to Samsung and Huawei's tri-fold and dual-fold phones. Xiaomi has not confirmed a wide international release timeline beyond its home market launch.
Why this launch matters
The Xiaomi 18 Fold arrives at a moment when Samsung, Huawei, and reportedly Apple are all pushing foldable hardware forward at once, making this year one of the more competitive stretches the foldable phone category has seen so far.
Protect the Xiaomi 18 Fold with a Komodoty case
A foldable this thin needs a case that fits its hinge and cameras without adding bulk. Komodoty makes cases for Xiaomi phones in slim wood with a Kevlar core, aramid fiber, and Alcantara, each cut precisely around the camera module and ports so the Xiaomi 18 Fold keeps its slim profile.
