Apple iPhone Duo Foldable Sells Out at Launch: Price and Release Date
The Apple iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable iPhone, sold out its initial preorder stock within minutes after orders opened on October 16. It is the biggest hardware change Apple has made to the iPhone line in years, and the response suggests plenty of buyers were waiting for it rather than testing the waters.
Preorders and release date
Preorders for the iPhone Duo opened October 16 at 5 a.m. Pacific Time. The phone ships October 23 in the United States and more than 70 other countries and regions, including Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. A second wave covering 28 more countries and regions follows on October 30, so buyers outside the first group have a short additional wait.
Pricing by storage tier
In the US, the iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for 256GB, with 512GB at $2,199, 1TB at $2,599, and 2TB at $3,199. That's a wide spread across four tiers, and it comes in two colors, Star White and Night Sky, so the color choice doesn't change the price math.
Two screens, one phone
Closed, the iPhone Duo uses a 5.4-inch outer display for everyday tasks like messaging and checking notifications. Unfolded, a 7.6-inch inner display takes over for video, multitasking, and apps that benefit from the extra room, with a matte nano-texture finish Apple says cuts down on crease visibility and glare, though it does not remove the crease entirely.
Camera setup
The rear camera system pairs a 48MP Fusion Main camera with a 48MP Ultra Wide camera. There's no dedicated telephoto lens this generation, a trade-off that comes with packing two screens and a hinge into one body. A 12MP Center Stage camera sits in the outer display for video calls and selfies while the phone is closed.
What's different under the hood
The iPhone Duo moves Touch ID into the side button instead of using Face ID, and it relies on eSIM only, with no physical SIM tray. Apple Pencil support is coming, but not until later this year, so it won't be available right at launch, which matters for anyone buying the Duo specifically to sketch or take notes on the bigger inner screen.
Accessory makers are already moving
Case and accessory brands started listing iPhone Duo-compatible options within days of the announcement, spanning fabric, leather, aramid fiber, and metal builds. That kind of quick turnaround tells you how much demand Apple is expecting for its first fold, and it means buyers don't have to go without protection while they wait for their phone to ship.
Protect your Apple iPhone Duo with a Komodoty case
A phone that folds in half needs a case built around that hinge, not against it. Komodoty makes slim cases in Alcantara, aramid fiber, and slim wood with a Kevlar core, with cutouts sized to each phone's camera and port layout and support for wireless charging where the phone allows it. See the fitted options in the Komodoty iPhone cases collection.
