Huawei Pura 90 Series Goes Global With July 14 Kuala Lumpur Launch
The Huawei Pura 90 series makes its global debut today, July 14, at a launch event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. First released in China earlier this year, the camera-focused flagship line is now heading to international markets, and coverage from GSMArena confirms the date and venue for the event, themed "Now is Your Moment."
The lineup so far
In China, the family spans the standard Pura 90, the Pura 90 Pro, and the Pura 90 Pro Max. Malaysian coverage indicates the local rollout starts with the Pro-tier models, with regional availability and naming to be finalized at the event. Exact global pricing had not been announced ahead of the keynote.
A 200MP telephoto first on the Pro Max
The Pura 90 Pro Max carries the series' headline feature: a 200MP periscope telephoto camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor, the largest yet used in a smartphone telephoto, with OIS and 4x optical zoom. It sits alongside a 50MP main camera with a variable aperture and a 40MP ultra-wide, continuing the Pura line's photography-first positioning.
Display and chip on the flagship
The Pro Max pairs a 6.9-inch OLED panel at 2,880 x 1,360 resolution with an LTPO refresh rate that scales from 1Hz to 120Hz. Inside is Huawei's Kirin 9030S processor. The Pro model steps down to a 6.6-inch display with a 50MP variable-aperture main camera and a 50MP periscope telephoto at 4x zoom.
The standard Pura 90 stays slim
The base model fits a 6.84-inch 1.5K flat display and a 6,500mAh battery into a 6.9mm body that weighs 203 grams. That combination of a large battery and a thin frame is one of the quiet strengths of the series.
A 5G comeback in global markets
Reports around the launch frame this as Huawei's return to global 5G phones after years of sanctions-era 4G hardware, which is arguably the bigger story than any single spec. For buyers outside China who left the brand when 5G disappeared, the Pura 90 series is the first mainstream reason to look again.
Pricing signals from China
In its home market, the base Pura 90 starts at roughly $690 equivalent, while the Pro Max climbs past $1,100 depending on storage. International pricing typically lands higher, so expect the global figures announced in Kuala Lumpur to sit above those numbers.
