OnePlus Reportedly Shutting Down in the US and Europe This Week

OnePlus is reportedly days away from an official withdrawal from the US and European markets, according to a report from German outlet WinFuture picked up by 9to5Google. The announcement is said to be due this week, and if it lands as described, it would close the book on one of the most influential Android phone brands of the past decade in Western markets.

Citing well-informed sources, WinFuture reports that OnePlus has already held closed-door press conferences about the withdrawal, with a public announcement expected in the coming days. The move is described as part of fundamental changes to parent company Oppo's strategy. China and India are reportedly not affected, so the OnePlus name is expected to continue in those markets.

A shutdown long in the making
The signs have been building all year. OnePlus denied an early shutdown report in January, but by April the company had officially confirmed it was evaluating its future in Europe while cutting regional staff. In June, OnePlus websites in several regions began pointing customers toward Oppo products instead, and a July report claimed OxygenOS, the brand's Android software, is set to be discontinued.

What it means for current OnePlus owners
Nothing about the report suggests existing phones will stop working, and coverage so far indicates current devices are expected to keep receiving software support through their promised update windows.
